How to order repeat prescriptions online

If you receive medicine on repeat prescription, you can now use several apps and websites to order your repeats online. You can then collect your medicines from a pharmacy or have them delivered to your home (where available).

When you order a repeat prescription online, you can have your prescription sent electronically to a pharmacy or dispenser of your choice. This means you no longer need to collect a paper prescription from your GP surgery.

If you have not already chosen your regular pharmacy or dispenser (called a "nomination"), some apps and websites allow you to set one up. If they do not:

Ordering a repeat prescription online is now recommended. Due to coronavirus (COVID-19), you may not be able to go into your GP surgery to collect repeat prescriptions.

If you usually get your repeat medicine from your GP surgery's dispensary, or use another dispenser for some specialised items (such as stoma products), you can still order it online.

Use apps or websites to order your repeat prescription

The apps and websites that are listed on this page work with your GP surgery's computer system. This means you can view and order your repeat prescription online.

Some may also let you see your medical record and book GP appointments.

Apps and websites that let you order a repeat prescription and use a pharmacy or dispenser of your choice:

Some pharmacies have their own apps and websites, including:

You have the option of choosing 1 of these 4 pharmacy apps and websites. They will become your regular pharmacy for prescriptions. They all offer a home delivery service, and some may offer a collection service at one of their pharmacies.

Order your prescription

When you've chosen an app or website to use, you need to register to create an account, if you do not already have one.

When you have an account, you can order your prescription using that app or website.

Your prescription request will be sent to your GP surgery for approval. The GP may need to talk to you before they approve it.

After your GP surgery has approved it, your prescription will be sent electronically to your regular pharmacy or dispenser, if you have nominated one.

Getting your prescription

There are usually a few ways you can get your medicine or item.

You may be able to:

  • collect it from your nominated pharmacy or dispenser
  • have it delivered to you

Ask your pharmacy or dispenser for more information about the services they provide.

Important: Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Do not go to a pharmacy if you have symptoms of COVID-19 (a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste).

You may also need to stay at home and not go to a pharmacy if you live with someone who has symptoms. Find out about when to self-isolate and what to do.

You may be able to get your medicines delivered (you may have to pay for this) or ask someone to collect them.

If you're picking up medicines for someone else, leave them outside their door, but make sure you see them collect them.
