Referrals, hospital and other appointments
Referral appointments
If you have been referred to a specialist through the NHS e-Referral Service, you can use the NHS e-Referral Service booking website: Manage your referral to book, view, or cancel your first consultation appointment. You can access this by logging in to your NHS account using the NHS App or the NHS website.
You can manage multiple referrals at any time, as long as they are first appointments.

- Find a suitable appointment date and time from the options available, then choose Select appointment.

Changing your appointment
To change your appointment:
- Go to Appointments.
- Select Referrals, hospital and other appointments.
- Go to Confirmed appointments and find the booked appointment you want to change.
- Select View or manage this appointment.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to change this appointment.
Cancelling a follow-up appointment
If you cannot attend a follow-up appointment and need to rebook it, you should change your appointment rather than cancel it. If you cancel an appointment you may not be able to change your mind, and depending on your healthcare provider you may be taken off the waiting list for care. If this happens and you then decide you want a follow-up appointment you’ll need a new referral from your healthcare provider.
To cancel your appointment:
- Go to Appointments.
- Select Referrals, Hospital and other appointments.
- Go to Confirmed appointments and find the booked appointment you want to cancel.
- Select View or manage this appointment.
- Then select Cancel appointment.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to cancel this appointment.
Missing or incorrect referrals or hospital appointments
If something is missing
You may have other hospital referrals or appointments not shown in your NHS account that are available in other services.
If you’re aged 16 to 17, you may not be able to view or manage some of your hospital appointments. This is because some NHS Trusts require you to be aged 18 or over to access this service.
If a referral or appointment is missing, you need to contact the relevant organisation or healthcare provider for more information.
If a change or cancellation is not showing
You may have requested to change or permanently cancel a booked appointment. This request may not automatically be accepted. The appointment will show as pending while the request is reviewed by the relevant organisation or healthcare provider it’s booked with.
If the request to change or cancel the appointment is not accepted it will still show as booked in your confirmed appointments.
If the cancellation is accepted the appointment will show as cancelled in your confirmed appointments.
If you have access to your personal health record, you may be able to view your hospital and other healthcare appointments.
