If you've had restorative dental treatment on the NHS and something goes wrong and requires repair or retreatment within 12 months of the original treatment, your dentist should carry out the necessary work free of charge.
This treatment includes fillings, root fillings, inlays, porcelain veneers, or crowns.
This will not normally apply if:
- within the 12-month period another dentist has carried out any treatment on the same tooth that has been restored
- the patient was advised at the time of the treatment that it was temporary or a different treatment was more appropriate, but the patient insisted on a different treatment
- the repair or treatment is the result of trauma or injury
