Overview

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for providing hospital services for the people of Bradford and communities across Yorkshire.

We operate over several sites, including Bradford Royal Infirmary, which provides the majority of inpatient services, and St. Luke’s Hospital, which predominantly provides outpatient and rehabilitation services.

As a teaching hospital, we are at the forefront of research, education and development in healthcare. Our Ophthalmology department is home to numerous worldwide clinical trials taking the lead in eye care research. We also offer pioneering robotic surgery with the use of our £2 million da Vinci robot which has trebled prostate operations at our Bradford Royal Infirmary site and we are the only centre in Yorkshire to offer this revolutionary procedure for all three urological cancers of the prostate, bladder and kidneys.

Our Education Department hosts a state of the art simulation centre which can be set up as an Emergency Department or Theatre environment in order to facilitate training. Our education staff are some of the best in the country and in 2015 our clinical research nursing team secured a place in the Nursing Times Awards final for their training.

In 2016, Bradford Royal Infirmary will open a new £28 million hospital wing. This new building will house our paediatric services, two adult medicine wards and an intensive care unit. This will continue our work to improve patient experience after our new £2 million neonatal unit officially opened in January 2015.

Bradford Royal Infirmary remains host to one of the busiest A&E departments in the country with more than 125,000 attendances per year and one of the busiest maternity units, delivering more than 6,000 babies each year.

Our mission is to promote seamless, excellent care, treating all patients as individuals and making sure they receive the best possible care to suit their needs so that they can live better, fuller, longer lives.
