The Walton Centre is one of the top 10 places to work in the NHS

The Walton Centre has been named as one of the best places to work in the Health Service Journal’s Best Places to Work 2015 Awards.

The trust has been named as runner-up in the specialist trust category – one of five categories in the prestigious awards event, putting the neuroscience hospital in the top ten of NHS employers nationally.

The awards are based on the results of the national NHS Staff Survey which was completed by more than 250,000 NHS employees from every trust and clinical care commissioning group in the country.

Director of Workforce Mike Gibney said: “To achieve this award is a huge accolade and is a fantastic reflection on our staff, leadership and culture.

“There is a proven link between having engaged staff and positive patient outcomes. Put simply, happy staff deliver great care.”

A trophy was presented to The Walton Centre’s Deputy Chair Janet Rosser at the awards event held in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 7. The ceremony took place at the end of a two-day Patient Safety Congress.

The success at the HSJ Awards follows news that The Walton Centre has been highlighted as one of 11 exemplar trusts chosen to help the Department of Health’s advisor Professor Dame Carol Black share good practice in health and wellbeing with the rest of the NHS.

The Walton Centre was recognised as having a comprehensive health and wellbeing programme which provides sports such as pilates and football as well as coaching and career development support to staff.

The Best Places to Work Awards brings care providers and commissioners together to celebrate their success and share best practice on what makes an organisation a great place to work.  Research demonstrates there is a relationship between happiness and workplace success.

Awards were given in five categories: Best Place to Work CCG; Best Place to Work Community Trust; Best Place to Work Mental Health Trust; Best Place to Work Specialist Trust and Best Place to Work Acute Trust.

Last year, The Walton Centre achieved the Investors In People (IIP) Gold Award for people management; plus an IIP Health and Wellbeing Award.
