The Trust is responsible for acute hospital services in South Tyneside and a wide range of community health services in Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. It is based at South Tyneside District Hospital in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, between Newcastle upon Tyne and Sunderland. It was selected as one of the Top 40 Hospitals in the country by the independent benchmarking company, CHKS - the seventh time in the last eight years.

We have 394 general, maternity and paediatric beds, and provide a full range of general secondary care hospital services. These include cancer services, specialised medicine, rehabilitation and older people's services, children's services and women's services. We provide community services across six streams of care – Planned Care, Children & Families, Palliative Care, Intermediate Care, Mental health and Learning Disabilities and Urgent Care.
