The Care Quality Commission has today published its report detailing the findings of the Comprehensive Inspection of our services, which took place in late October last year.

We have been rated as 'good' overall.

The report is made up of 10 specific service reports and an overall summary report. The table below details the rating that the CQC has given each of these 10 service areas across each of the five domains.

Film Highlights Recovery College Success

A short film has been produced highlighting the success of an innovative college set up to educate people on how to help their recovery and stay well following mental illness. 

Since its inception the Severn & Wye Recovery College, run by ²gether NHS Foundation Trust and partners, has helped more than 200 people to improve their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Trust in Pilot Project to Tackle Discrimination

We’re working with Time to Change on a national pilot project to tackle stigma and discrimination faced by those with mental health problems.

The project, also involving Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (NTW), and people with experience of mental health problems, follows evidence that mental health care service users nationally continue to face stigma from healthcare professionals.

2gether Teams Receive Royal College of Psychiatry Accreditation

The three 2gether teams who support mental health patients in their own homes have received accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
 
The teams, who support people experiencing sudden mental health issues that are presenting risks to their welfare, are now officially accredited under the national Home Treatment Accreditation Scheme (HTAS).
 
2gether’s Countywide Community Services Manager Jez Leat, who manages the teams, said it was a great achievement, which should give service users and the wider community additional confidence in the services provided by the Trust.

“The process we went through to achieve accreditation involved rigorous examination of the care provided and the processes behind it,” Jez said.
 
“Our teams were assessed in depth, by a visiting team of inspectors, and have been found to be meeting the standards set down by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
 
“The Home Treatment Accreditation Scheme was introduced last year, as a way of ensuring high quality home treatment services,” he added.

“We are delighted to have met the standards, and our accreditation will continue until 2016 when we will be inspected again.”
 
The three teams – known as Crisis and Home Treatment Teams - cover the following geographical areas:
•Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and North Cotswolds;
•Gloucester and Forest; and
•Stroud and Cotswolds.
 
The teams are comprised of professionals including Nurses, Social Workers, Psychiatrists and Community Support Workers.
 
They offer support and advice when people need an additional level of care, for example when their mental health is deteriorating. The teams monitor mental health, offer support and advice to families and carers, give practical support and assistance with daily activities, assist with medication management, and help service users to develop coping strategies.

The teams visit individuals every day for up to six weeks, enabling service users to stay in their own home, unless hospital admission becomes necessary. They are available to support people 24 hours a day and operate an emergency helpline for the people they are supporting.

Refurbishment and Reopening of Hereford Mental Health Facility

The day care unit and cafeteria at a Hereford mental health facility has been completely refurbished and reopened.

The facility, at the Stonebow Unit, which is in the grounds of Hereford County Hospital, has been given the overhaul by 2gether NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the facility, with funding from Herefordshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Sally Simmonds, Acute Services Manager with 2gether, said the work, which included total redecoration and the creation of a new communal kitchen and coffee room, had made a huge difference.

She said: “The day care unit offers therapeutic activity to outpatients at risk of hospital admission and to inpatients staying at Stonebow and another of our facilities, Oak House.

“The kitchen will be a very valuable asset, enabling group cooking activities and letting us provide activities which promote independence.

“Overall, the refurbishment provides a light, calming and airy environment which will be valued by staff and patients alike.

“We’re very grateful to everyone who made the refurbishment possible, and I’m sure the new facilities will prove a great asset to us and everyone we support from across Herefordshire.”

The refurbishment has taken two months in total and the official reopening was carried out by 2gether NHS Foundation Trust’s Chair Ruth FitzJohn.

The re-opening took the form of a celebration, during which music was provided thanks to the Herefordshire Mental Health Reference Group.

Memory Team Receives RPsych Accreditation

 ²gether's service for people with dementia and memory problems has received national accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Managing Memory ²gether offers memory assessment, diagnosis and treatment as well an information and education service for people worried about memory, people with dementia and their carers.

The team consists of specialist memory assessment nurses as well as consultant psychiatrists, occupational therapists, psychologists and speech and language therapists. 

The accreditation was based on the Gloucester locality Managing Memory ²gether team which operates as part of a countywide service.

Following a lengthy inspection process, the Gloucester service is now part of the Memory Services National Accreditation Programme, which has been set up to ensure high quality care is provided to people with dementia across the UK.

In addition to assessment and treatment services Managing Memory ²gether also operates a community dementia nursing service and a telephone advice line, as well as providing courses and information sessions about dementia and memory loss.
