Overview

East Kent Hospitals logo

East Kent Hospitals is one of the largest Trusts in the country, serving a population of around 720,500. It has three major hospitals in Ashford, Canterbury and Margate and also provides outpatient and diagnostic services from its two community hospitals in Folkestone and Dover. It offers a range of services throughout the local area in facilities owned by other organisations and runs the renal services in east Kent, Medway and Maidstone.

In 2007 we became a University hospital - which means we play a vital role in the education and training of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, working closely with local universities and Kings College London.

We became a Foundation Trust on 1 March 2025 - which means local people, patients and staff can have a real say in the Trust’s decisions by becoming members of the Foundation Trust. Members elect the Trust’s Council of Governors, which represents the local population.

Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people' and this guides everything we do. We put a strong emphasis on the quality of our care, as shown by our exceptionally low infection rates, and use the best of modern technology to give our patients the highest possible standards of care - from our robotic surgery to our hi-tech patient monitoring system.

Departments and services

From minor injuries units and general surgery to therapies and X-rays, the Trust provides a vast range of services. For more information and a comprehensive list of the services offered, please visit the Trust's website at http://www.ekhuft.nhs.uk/services/
