Hospital radiographer completes Sandhurst military training
A radiographer from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) has graduated as an officer from a prestigious Royal Military Academy, following a four week intensive course.
Lieutenant Tiffany Delves, a CT Radiographer at the Queen's Medical Centre, was one of 25 NHS reservists to graduate from Sandhurst and join the Army Medical Services as a Reserve Medical Officer (RMO).
Tiffany, who has worked at NUH since 2009, joined the army as a reservist last year and decided to sign up for the adventure and responsibility. She said: "I love my job and I am excited by it. Radiography is so diverse and I have already ventured down many interesting paths within the NHS.
"Joining the army was a unique challenge that allowed me to incorporate my day job, but also exposed me to additional aspects of adventure and responsibility."
The 'Royal Army Medical Corps', the largest of the regiments within the Army Medical Services are available to deploy at short notice anywhere in the world. They maintain soldiers' health and provide medical care to the sick and injured during times of war, counter insurgency, peacemaking or during peacekeeping operations.
Tiffany added: "I have developed a new level of respect for the British Army. The skills, professionalism and work ethic of everyone I have come across are outstanding and I consider it an absolute privilege to be able to count myself among them.
"The benefits of being in the army reserves are numerous. I have received funding for courses beneficial to my role at NUH, received highly-valued leadership and vocational training, made new friends and have been given the opportunity to travel at home and overseas."
NUH has, for some time, maintained a signed pledge with the Ministry of Defence committing its support to facilitating deployment and/or training in military activities for reservists.
Nicky Hill, Director of Human Resources at NUH, said: "We are extremely proud of Tiffany and all the army medical reservists who work at our hospitals.
"We consistently find that the skills and experience developed by reservists during their training and mobilisation helps colleagues be even more effective when they return to our hospitals."
