Caring for someone who is terminally ill

If you're caring for somebody who is terminally ill, there is information in the guide to caring section dedicated to end of life issues.

In the end of life section there is information on finding the most appropriate care for the person you're looking after. This might be through accessing palliative care, finding a hospice or arranging nursing care in your home.

When the person you're looking after dies, you will need to deal with a range of practical matters. The registering a death and estates pages will guide you through the practicalities.

You may also need to sort out any benefits that the person you were looking after was receiving and your own benefits. The section called death and benefits will help you to know what to do and what financial support you may be entitled to.

If your caring responsibilities have come to an end with the death of the person you were looking after, you may be thinking about what you will do next. The section on work and study contains information on returning to work to help you to think about the options that are available and support that you may be entitled to.

If you'd like to find out more about the particular condition of the person you're caring for, go to the Health A-Z index page.
