Carers' learning programme

Caring with Confidence gives you a better understanding of the problems you may face as a carer and helps you find new ways to tackle them.

You can take part in a Caring with Confidence course through:

  • free online interactive learning
  • free self-study workbooks
  • group sessions, if there are any available near you

Although these ways of learning differ from each other, they follow a similar pattern. Caring with Confidence has seven different courses that you can work through at your own pace and in your own time.

You do not need to have done any kind of self-study before to complete the programme. Before you start the course, decide whether you're happy to work through it on your own, especially if you have difficulty reading.

Self-study workbooks

You can download self-study workbooks to read or print off and complete in your own time and at your own pace. These workbooks make up a complete self-study course. The first module is "Finding your way", but you can complete the modules in any order after that.

Finding your way

This should be the first course you complete. It helps you discover what matters to you as a carer and lets you decide which other courses to do. Download the Finding your way self-study module (ZIP, 4.7MB).

Caring and coping

This lets you consider the emotions involved in looking after someone and ways you might cope with stress more effectively. Download the Caring and coping self-study module (ZIP, 3.3MB).

Caring and me

This course outlines how you can stay fit and healthy and looks at planning your caring around your own health and wellbeing. Download the Caring and me self-study module (ZIP, 2.9MB).

Caring day by day

This module covers the basics of looking after someone, from medication to emergencies at home. Download the Caring day by day self-study module (ZIP, 4.3MB).

Caring and communicating

Here you will find out the best ways to communicate with different people using real-life caring situations. Download the Caring and communicating self-study module (ZIP, 4.4MB).

Caring and resources

This highlights how you can maximise your income and access other resources that save you money as a carer. Download the Caring and resources self-study module (ZIP, 4.3MB).
